Like most car manufacturers these days, Porsche wants to reinvent itself. The process started with the original Cayenne in the early 2000s, the company's first crossover, followed by the smaller Macan a decade later.
In the meantime, its executive model, the Panamera, has reached its third generation, and the brand also has the Taycan to cater to EV lovers. If you've missed it, the next 911 is believed to go hybrid, whereas the smaller 718 Boxster (and 718 Cayman, aka the coupe) will be a pure electric model.

We've seen the all-new 718 Boxster EV testing on multiple occasions these past couple of years, and more recently, another prototype was snapped in the cold. This pre-production car kept its camouflage to the minimum, with a few stickers wrapped around the headlights and other exterior components. Porsche decided to drop the fake exhaust tip, and we can see more of the charging port above the rear license plate.

Inside, it has a pair of main screens incorporated into the dashboard. It's great to see that the Zuffenhausen car maker hasn't ditched the physical buttons, which are joined by some aircraft-style switches. The gear selector is very minimalist, and it has a new steering wheel. Don't go searching for images of the interior in the latest batch of scoops, as we caught a glimpse of it last fall, and you can check out those spy shots here.

Overall, the all-new 718 Boxster EV will look like an evolution of its predecessor, and that's no surprise, given that Porsche is famously known for sticking to traditional and winning recipes when it comes to the design part.

And while we may know its styling inside and out, for the most part, we cannot say the same about the powertrain family. Nevertheless, it is expected to launch with an assortment of single and dual-motor assemblies, with rear- and all-wheel-drive, respectively, and probably a long-range option (or more) targeting those who want to use the roadster as a daily driver.

Judging by the minimalist camouflage on the latest scooped prototypes, it shouldn't be long until Porsche officially pulls the wraps off the all-new 718 Boxster EV. It's been said that the model will be presented sometime this year, and we wouldn't be surprised to see it in the first half, with deliveries probably kicking off in the summer.

The battery-electric open-top vehicle from the Zuffenhausen company is understood to get its U.S. visa for the 2025 model year, and we look forward to seeing it in showrooms here and checking out what it has to offer. After all, due to the all-quiet powertrains, it will be a radical departure from its predecessors. Are you excited about the Boxster EV?
