Subaru of America recently announced they are almost ready to put the "sharper and more focused" 2024 BRZ on the red carpet and under the spotlight in a few days. So, please mark your calendars for July 23 and head to Subiefest California, to see it in the metal.
Launched into production in January 2012, more than a decade ago, the Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 twins have had enough time to ascertain their presence on the affordable sports car market with their traditional characteristics: a low-slung profile composed of a long hood and small, recessed greenhouse, the 2+2 seating configuration, and the fastback coupe allure.

The front-engine RWD setup comes with a low center of gravity and excellent mass distribution, so it's no wonder the naturally-aspirated boxer engine-powered models have become increasingly popular over the years. Besides, aside from rivals like the Mazda MX-5 Miata and the (much) more expensive Audi TT, there are only a few alternatives to be had in this crossover/SUV/truck-hyped automotive age.

No worries, both the first and second generation of the Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 have held up pretty well on their end of the bargain if you ask fans. The latest iteration was presented a little off-beat – in late 2020, and the Subaru BRZ was the first to appear (and went into production in July 2021), while the Toyota GR86 sibling arrived in April 2021 and started manufacturing in October that year.

Since then, though, the focus has been mainly on the late arrival – Toyota's GR86, which received a special edition celebrating a decade of Scion FR-S in North America even though the model went defunct in 2016. Anyway, not long ago, the largest Japanese automaker treated its small and nimble GR86 to yet another special apparition – the 2024 Toyota GR86 Trueno Edition that harks back to the 1980s AE86 model and is only offered to 860 customers throughout the United States market with many exclusive touches inside and out.

Well, Subaru BRZ fans might feel left out of the special edition party, right? No worries, as the 2023MY $28,595 BRZ Premium and $31,095 BRZ Limited will soon be superseded by the arrival of the 2024 model year. And the good news is that Subaru of America is mere days away from presenting the "sharper and more focused BRZ" at the Subiefest California event that will take place on July 23.

And if you want to see it live, there are more treats than just seeing the 2024 BRZ in the metal - Scott Speed will be on point for the presentation, the last American to race full time in Formula 1, NASCAR Sprint Cup pilot, and three-time X-Games gold medalist! Plus, the Santa Anita Park event will also feature Travis Pastrana and the 1983 Subaru GL Wagon – aka Family Huckster – as they are coming back from the UK, where they took second place overall at the Goodwood Hill Climb behind the all-new McLaren Solus GT.
