After seven years in the market, one might think that Porsche is ready to retire the second-gen Panamera. But they're not, as they'll keep it alive for a few more years with the same internal combustion recipe; after all, without it, it would step on the toes of the Taycan.
A mid-cycle refresh is on the horizon for the Zuffenhausen company's executive low-slung model, and it will be a comprehensive one. Look for the run-of-the-mill updated front and rear fascias and much more. The car will get some significant upgrades in the cockpit, and rumor has it that some powertrain revisions are on the agenda, too.
In the exterior looks department, it will sport new headlamps. For now, the clusters feature some stickers around them to trick the average Joe into thinking they're looking at the outgoing iteration. It also has a big mouth, defined by the wide central air intake flanked by the side vents. Despite the apparently camo-free back end, the taillights and what is believed to be a light strip linking them together are still hidden, more or less.
The diffuser on the latest scooped prototype, which was nabbed at the Nurburgring, is identical to that of the tester we spotted a couple of months ago. It still has quad exhaust tips and the same extendable spoiler. The vents on the front fenders look the same, and so do the wheels, which retain the black look, just like the rest of the exterior. Even the face is identical, so we wouldn't be surprised if we're looking at the same car.
We've already seen the cockpit back in April, which sends Cayenne vibes. The model will feature a new infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster, and some believe a third display will be mounted on the dashboard in front of the passenger, making its way to the options list. The center console is more minimalist this time around, and the shifter was mounted on the dashboard. The air vents, or at least the central ones, will be new, and we expect a different steering wheel to round off the updates, alongside perhaps new upholstery and trim.
Expected to debut in a few months, the 2024 Porsche Panamera will reportedly further mirror the Cayenne flagship crossover under the hood, as well. The high-rider features a V8 that replaced the V6 in the S grade, and since the Panamera 4S features the same V6 as the pre-facelifted Cayenne, it might also get the eight-banger. The 4 E-Hybrid model is understood to get a larger battery, which will improve the all-quiet driving range. And as we already told you, it won't go electric, as it would render the Taycan useless – or the other way around.
