While over in the United States, Toyota was busy showing its rivals how a proper mid-size off-road SUV is done with respect for its 4x4 heritage and tradition - in the form of the 2025 sixth generation 4Runner, over in the UK, another historic model, which is even older, also got treated to a host of enhancements to make it relevant, even more than 70 years after its initial introduction.
So, if you don't want or don't care about a big, hulking 4x4, Morgan has announced a string of updates for its Plus Four model – the roadster that came in 2020 as a direct successor to the Morgan Plus 4, produced intermittently between 1950 and 2020. This is the second model after the Plus Six was developed on the new CX-Generation bonded aluminum platform, which still features a wooden frame and rocks a BMW TwinPower gasoline engine under the hood.
Soon, though, the Plus Four will continue the legacy of the Plus 4 with several styling upgrades, including new lights, wings, front splitter, rear diffuser, and mirrors – they all combine to evolve Plus Four's timeless appeal while staying true to the spirit of the original. With more than seven decades of experience behind it, the latest Morgan Plus Four has new 8-inch headlights, cold-formed front and rear wings, a new front splitter, and a new rear diffuser with a floating number plate plinth finished in dark matte grey paint.
Always looking to deliver "pure driving enjoyment," Morgan mates the 2.0-liter BMW engine that's still good for 259 horsepower (255 hp) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque with the six-speed manual transmission or 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque with the eight-speed automatic and introduces new spring rates and re-valved dampers along with an optional Dynamic Handling Pack created specifically for Morgan by the suspension experts from Nitron. The specifics include new springs with single way adjustable damping and adjustable spring platform, as well as the addition of a rear anti-roll bar.
The refreshed Plus Four inside the cockpit gets a Sennheiser audio system, upgraded LCD screen and dashboard, new interior illumination, and a fresh key fob. The enhanced audio system now has 'invisible' speakers in the cockpit – under the seats, and upgraded conventional speakers embedded in the doors. The Morgan Plus Four remains "bespoke as standard," with the coachbuilt process taking place at Pickersleigh Road – now with a three-year warranty and the option for another 12-month extension. Prices kick off from £62,500 ($78,809 at the current exchange rate) plus local market taxes.
