Here is the all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain, ready to convince customers it is worth considering in a world where everyone wants pickup trucks and SUVs. The model is coming to the United States.
The arrival of the second-generation E-Class All-Terrain, after the first remained on the market for six years, is proof that there is still a market willing to consider that SUVs and pickup trucks are not the only body style to be considered.

Ready to battle once again the Audi A6 Allroad and the Volvo V90 Cross Country, the E-Class All-Terrain car comes with standard all-wheel drive, Armatic air suspension, and a 1.8-inch (46-millimeter) extra ground clearance compared to the E-Class wagon.

There will be a single engine variant for the American customers, the E 450, powered by a 3.0-liter six-cylinder with 375 horsepower (381 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. The Boost function brings along 23 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. Those are the figures that take it from 0 to 100 kph (0-62 mph) in 4.6 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 130 mph (210 kph).

European customers, however, will get a lineup comprising three versions. There will be a four-cylinder mild-hybrid diesel in the shape of the E 220, the six-cylinder gasoline engine going by the name of the E 450, and the four-cylinder diesel plug-in hybrid with the E300 de designation. The diesel (E 220 d) is powered by the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine capable of doing 194 horsepower (197 PS) for an acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in 8.1 seconds.

But when operating alongside an electric motor in the E 300 de, the same engine generates 308 horsepower (312 PS) and provides a 0-100 kph (0-62 mph) time of 6.9 seconds. The plug-in hybrid can drive as far as 62 miles (102 kilometers) on battery power only, according to the WLTP testing cycle.

Based on the E-Class estate (called T-Modell in Germany), the 2024 E-Class All-Terrain comes with a redesigned radiator grille with two bars in Iridium Silver finish in the middle, and wheel-arch cladding, similar to the SUVs.

The model gets 1.8 inches (46 millimeters) of extra ground Clarence. The Armatic air suspension can lower the car by 0.6 inches (15 millimeters) at speeds above 75 mph (120 kph) to improve aerodynamics.

The car measures 195 inches (4,950 millimeters) in length, 75 inches (1,904 millimeters) in width, and 58,9 inches (1,497 millimeters) in height. The wheelbase has also been extended by 0.86 inches (22 millimeters), all the way to 116.6 inches (2,961 millimeters), which translates into more legroom for the passengers sitting in the back.

The All-Terrain version rides on 18-inch with 235/55 R 18 tires as standard, but 19- and 20-inch wheels are also available.

An Off-Road driving program and the “transparent hood” function, which offers visibility underneath the hood via the 360-degree camera, convert the estate-based car into an off-roader. A light one though, because you cannot expect the E-Class All-Terrain to be capable of everything the G-Class can do.

The high-ride E-Class also brings all the perks of a wagon body stye. It offers a load capacity of 615 liters/21.7 cubic inches to 1,830 liters/64.6 cubic inches (with the rear seats backrest folded down) or from 460 liters (16 cubic inches) to 1,675 liters (59 cubic inches) for the plug-in hybrid model which has the battery in the trunk.

The cabin of the E-Class All-Terrain follows the rules of those that the sedan and wagon come with. There is an optional front-passenger display and occupants can take selfies on board, watch TikTok videos or play Angry Birds.

The All-Terrain (plug-in hybrid version included) has a braked towing capacity of up to 2,100 kilograms (4,630 pounds). The unbraked towing capacity is 750 kilograms (1,653 pounds).

The 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain is expected to hit the market sometime in the first quarter of 2024. That is probably when we will learn about pricing.
