The all-new 2024 Lexus GX 550 starts from $64,250 with the Premium Grade, but you can also reach $81,250 without any options if you choose the Luxury+ trim. Meanwhile, the older 2023 GX 460 kicks off at $60,225 and can go as high as $70,880.
Although Toyota is one of the most prolific global automakers in the world and had a tidal wave of new model introductions this year both for its namesake brand and the Lexus premium division, we can still frown a bit about its strategy.

Some models, like the Grand Highlander and Lexus TX, are brand-new additions to the roster, and that's commendable. But others were ultra-long-overdue, such as the Lexus GX, which has been around for almost 15 years as far as the J150 second generation is concerned. Yep, the same was valid for the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser (Prado or 250 in specific markets), as they share the same underpinnings.

While Toyota is focused on adequately launching the next generation of the best-selling Tacoma mid-size pickup truck on the American market, Lexus decided to steal the red carpet's spotlight with the 2024 GX 550. The luxury division recently announced the starting price of the third generation - $64,250 sans destination and other fees. Now, the off-roader is pegged to arrive in early 2024 at nationwide dealerships, and finally, the online configurator is also live for customers.

Available with increased exterior dimensions, in the United States, the GX features just one powertrain at the moment – GX 550 has the V35A-FTS 3.4-liter twin-turbocharged V6 packing 349 horsepower and 479 lb-ft (649 Nm), allowing for a towing capacity of up to 8,000 lbs (3,600 kg). There's also the Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 suite plus a 14-inch multimedia touchscreen for the Lexus Interface inside.

The new configurator offers a choice of six trims: Premium, Luxury, and Overtrail — each with its own upgraded "+" variant. The GX 550 Premium is $64,250, the GX 550 Premium + is $69,250 – the same as the GX 550 Overtrail, and the GX 550 Luxury also has the same MSRP of $77,250 as the GX 550 Overtrail+. Alone, the GX 550 Luxury+ stands at the top with a starting price of $81,250.

Because we love to dabble with these new models, we kicked off a couple of configurations. The first one was based on the Overtrail+ with the $850 Earth and Black Onyx exterior color combination, an included Chateau NuLuxe / Olive Ultrasuede and Black Grained interior trim, all packages and options ticked, an $1,580 roof rack and $990 rock rails (two of the 96 accessories!), and the total was $83,985.

Secondly, we also tried a GX 550 Luxury+ configuration with Eminent White Pearl ($500), Saddle Tan Semi-aniline leather and Brown Grained interior trim ($0), 22-inch Dark Gray alloy wheels ($0), all packs and options, plus another handful of accessories like Black Emblem Overlays ($199), PPF by 3M ($450), a Carmate dashcam ($375), and a few other stuff, and the grand total stood at $86,174. That's not bad, right? Now, which is your favorite configuration?
