At long last, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma is coming to nationwide dealerships, and the online configurator is live - allowing you to personalize, mix and match, and above all – spend a lot on the best-selling mid-size pickup truck in America.
The Japanese automaker has had a very intense year in 2023. In fact, I have often likened its barrage of novelties with an inexorable tidal wave that might easily swipe away from its path any competing carmaker. Well, Toyota certainly hopes this is precisely what will happen soon with General Motors in the United States as the two conglomerates battle for sales supremacy in one of the world's most important markets.

The company used a lot of tricks – from accessible yet feisty 220-hp Prius Prime plug-in hybrids to the trio of GR special editions (GR86 Trueno, GR Corolla Circuit, GR Supra 45th Anniversary), and from the expanding Nightshade family to the arrival of the 2024 Grand Highlander three-row family-oriented crossover SUV. Then, of course, there were also the superstars: the 2024 Tacoma, Land Cruiser, and the 2025 Camry or Crown Signia.

Most of the latter will start arriving at dealerships starting next year, but there's one major novelty that will make Christmas a little better – the N400 Tacoma is potentially hitting the first delivery threshold this December. For that, Toyota has finally posted the online configurator options for the latest iteration, and the base trim – SR with XtraCab (6-foot bed) or Double Cab (5-foot bed) – costs from $31,500 (plus $1,495 for destination and other fees).

This entry-level model still comes with the 2.4-liter i-Force inline-four but in a low-output configuration of 228 hp if you choose the automatic transmission. The six-speed stick shift is still available in a handful of configurations, and that one upgrades to 270 hp while the costlier high-output autos have 278 ponies at their disposal. For now, the 326-hp i-Force Max is unavailable to configure as that one will arrive later next year, but you can still choose SR5, TRD PreRunner, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, and Limited models.

The latter starts at an MSRP of $52,100, but that doesn't mean you should stop there. We decided to create our ideal top-notch 2024 Tacoma, went for the Supersonic Red hero color, and added all the accessories we could find, at least the OEM ones. At check out, with the $1,495 for delivery, processing, and handling included, the grand total was $62,202! And that's without any of the accessories from partners like ARB, Carmate, Dometic, Go Rhino, Kurgo, Pelican, or RAM X-Grip.

With this kind of money, you could easily buy a couple of smaller Ford Maverick unibody compact pickup trucks and still have some 'spare change' for gasoline ($15,400!), or adding another $1,000 would net you one of the most fun sports cars on the planet – BMW's 453-hp M2 Coupe.
