In the world of compact executive cars, the Lexus IS is not the most renowned nameplate – not like the German triumvirate Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class – but it's still a great asset in the brand's rivalry with other segment competitors like the Cadillac CT4, Genesis G70, or Infiniti Q50, among others.
Also called Toyota Altezza (1998 -2005), the original Lexus IS appeared in 1999 as the entry-level, sportier model positioned below the mid-size ES executive saloon. It quickly made a name for itself in sedan and station wagon form with inline-four and inline-six engines under the hood. Interestingly, Lexus decided to rethink the strategy for the second iteration and only kept the four-door sedan. In contrast, the five-door touring model was dropped in favor of a ritzier coupe convertible model.

As a statement of its new-found abilities, the only inline-four was a 2.2-liter diesel offered in select regions like Europe, whereas the gasoline engines were all V6s until the arrival of the high-performance IS F sporting the 5.0-liter 2UR-GSE V8 mill under the hood. Today, the third generation has been around since 2013 only as a four-door sedan and with a more extensive roster of powertrains that now also includes a hybrid option aside from the inline-four turbo, V6s, and the mighty V8.

However, notice how the Lexus IS has grown a little long in the tooth as it's already a decade old? That means Lexus had better start thinking about its replacement to join new arrivals like the tiny LBX in Europe or the mighty GX 550 in North America and at home in Japan. No worries, if the luxury Japanese automaker isn't thinking rapidly, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators is making sure that the all-new fourth-gen Lexus IS will be on the right (CGI) track.

The good folks over at the PoloTo and Real Automotive channels on YouTube have recently imagined the cool looks of the fourth Lexus IS iteration and be prepared for some astonishing revelations – such as the next generation's fully electric powertrain or the return of the two-door version as a sporty coupe. Well, of course, do take all this with a pinch of salt, as nothing is official just yet.

Once you have taken into consideration this is all merely wishful thinking, we can proceed to dissect the projects. The guys from PoloTo have allowed their resident pixel master to try out various design projects for the next Lexus IS with help from AI's assistance. So, there are a few choices to select your favorite. As for the CGI expert from Real Automotive, the only way forward for the IS seems to be via a sporty two-door coupe – obviously forgetting that Lexus already has an equivalent, the Lexus RC luxury coupe.
