The US automaker doesn't care much about the EV revolution at home in America, where it recently decided to kill the Explorer Hybrid and also the Lincoln Aviator Hybrid for a very particular – it needs enough production capacity to satisfy Hybrid Interceptor demand from the law enforcement.
However, they are not worried about losing the EV hype train – the Mustang Mach-E was recently put on par with the MSRP with the best-selling Tesla Model Y, so you don't have any reason not to consider it too. And the F-150 Lightning is fighting valiantly the GMC Hummer EV and Rivian R1T as training in anticipating for the real war against the upcoming Tesla Cybertruck.

Meanwhile, in Europe, they are a lot more careful about their electrification steps. The company recently introduced the first-ever Ford Ranger Plug-In Hybrid mid-size pickup truck and is on track to start production of the Ford Explorer EV, a battery-powered compact crossover SUV that doesn't have anything in common with the bigger mid-size CUV made in the United States, despite sharing the name.

Instead, the Old Continent's new Ford Explorer EV will be produced in Cologne, Germany, primarily for the European markets based on the dedicated Volkswagen Group MEB platform, which is shared with models like the Audi Q4 and Q5 e-tron, Cupra Born, and Tavascan, Skoda Enyaq iV, and an entire slew of Volkswagen IDs. If we need the fine print, the Ford Explorer EV is closely related to the Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5 but with Blue Oval styling "as a nod to our American heritage."

Ford specifically picked the length of the Explorer EV between the ID.3 hatchback and the ID.4 compact crossover SUV to avoid direct competition between them, even though it will share the APP 310 motors and 55 or 82 kWh lithium-ion battery packs. Both the exterior and interior design are decidedly Ford, and this is not the only EV the company is planning to bring to market. Instead, our spy photographer partners have captured the camouflaged looks of the upcoming, confirmed Ford Puma EV that will be produced in Romania, boasting the same powertrain as the new E-Tourneo Custom, a 134-hp single motor.

If everything turns out fine, the rumor mill – or at least the imaginative realm of digital car content creators believes that Ford will move to offer a coupe-SUV option for the subcompact Puma EV. And it will be a cross between the Ford Explorer EV and the Puma EV, all sprinkled with details from the Mustang Mach-E, according to Kleber Silva, a Brazil-based virtual artist known as KDesign AG on social media. Better yet, he also has a fitting name – Ford Capri EV. So, do you think it would be wise to revive the iconic European nameplate for an EV coupe-SUV?
