2025 BMW X3 Debuts With Interchangeable ICE or iX3 Looks, Sadly a Figment of Imagination

The Bavarians over at BMW are known for their recent propensity for outrageous model introductions – just look at the M3 and M4, 7 Series and i7, or the X7 LCI and mighty XM if you need a few examples.
However, not all is wild and controversial at the automaker, as some models retain a bit of sense and sensibility to their designs, like the 2 Series and 5 Series or the X5 and X6 siblings. On the other hand, BMW is also diligently taking care of both the ICE-powered side of the business and the novel EV lifestyle – the recent X2 and iX2 are just the latest reminders of their desire to cater to all expectations.

Logic dictates that after an X2 comes the X3 – and the G01 third generation is undoubtedly starting to grow a little long in the tooth, even after the 2021 facelift. Yes, the G08 BMW iX3 is slightly newer, but now the company wants to maintain a tight schedule on its ICE and EV introductions. So, we are not at all surprised that our spy photographer partners keep stumbling upon their respective successors.

Back in October, we last saw the ICE-powered (gas, diesel, and PHEV, most likely) 2025 BMW X3 shed some of its thick layers of camouflage to reveal the production lights and other details. That means it's probably just a few months away from debuting. Additionally, earlier this month, the BMW Neue Klasse SUV prototype was also spied on, and we think it's the precursor to the next-gen iX3, as the Bavarians now have a habit of presenting either the EV first or both models at once.

However, some people might not have the patience to wait for the official introduction. And they might also not want the regular X3 to differ much from the iX3 fully electric counterpart. Well, some might also want to do something about that and take matters into their own hands – or rather, at the tip of their CGI brush, as is the case here with the imaginative realm of digital car content creators.

Sugar Chow, the virtual artist better known as sugardesign_1 on social media, has decided to dupe innocent bystanders into thinking this is the new X3 with his life-like portrayals of all-new, upcoming models. It's as close to reality as possible, save for the fact that we know the next-gen model is still hiding under camouflage, and BMW is not ready to unleash it yet. But the level of realism is uncanny, nevertheless.

Interestingly, the CGI expert also proposes a hypothetical situation where the BMW X3 doesn't need to switch back and forth between different styles for the ICE-powered and EV models. Instead, the regular X3 also features a closed-off grille and a hidden exhaust system. Frankly, that could make the new generation X3 and iX3 much cheaper to produce, right? However, do take all this with a pinch of salt, as nothing is official just yet.
