That's a little disappointing, especially considering that Hennessey Performance also makes TRXs with 1,000 horsepower, and they are renowned as supercharged V8 specialists.
The Sealy, Texas-based tuner and hypercar manufacturer is extremely busy this year. Over the past few months, we have seen their 1,000-hp 'Last Stand' models celebrate the demise of the Dodge Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcat, the Hennessey Exorcist 'Final Edition' challenge the Demon 170 with its 1,000-hp Chevy Camaro ZL1, the company hired a new VP of engineering, and make the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing an H1000 'Hercules in a tuxedo.'
Notice how we didn't say anything about the Blue Oval side of the Big Detroit Three? We saved the best for last – things like the H850 supercharged 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, the Ford Ranger Raptor 'VelociRaptor 500,' or the 500-hp Bronco Raptor. Nothing about the F-150? No worries, the company announced in April the Ford Raptor R with the 700-hp V8 could morph into the 'VelociRaptoR 6x6' and even elevated the factory sting to 775 hp with the Venom 775 just last month.
The latter will surely sting the OEM Raptor R and the 2024 Ram 1500 TRX, but on this occasion, we are here to find out that Hennessey kicks off production of the 'VelociRaptoR 6X6.' It keeps the supercharged 5.2-liter V8, complete with its normal rating of 700 hp, and makes it a 6x6 monster instead. Now, the model features "six-wheel drive, an eight-foot cargo bed, dual locking rear axles, enhanced suspension, bespoke wheels, and more," with all the upgrades aimed at improving both on- and off-road performance along with a substantial increase in utility.
The third-generation Ford F-150 Raptor R has an extended boxed frame, a second, fully functional, locking rear axle (allegedly, it improves grip by 50%), Live Valve Fox dampers, a three-inch lift for the body, and Hennessey's bespoke 20-inch alloy wheels shod in 37-inch off-road tires. Last but not least, the standard 5.5-foot (1.67-meter) bed is replaced with a custom 8-foot (2.4-meter) long load bed that boasts a 45% higher cargo capacity.
"The F-150 Raptor R is competent right from the factory, but our 6X6 upgrade improves it dramatically. It gains significantly more traction thanks to 50 percent more driven wheels. The 8-foot bed adds a truck-load of increased utility, and the combination of three axles, a body lift, and a roaring V8 delivers unmatched stage presence!" says John Hennessey, company founder and CEO.
Additional upgrades include new front and rear bumpers, LED off-road lights, and Hennessey VelociRaptoR badges, but the Raptor R engine, a supercharged 5.2-liter V8, is untouched. Frankly, I would have loved to see Hennessey come out and say that for the production-ready VelociRaptoR 6X6 build, they also added the expanded performance of the Venom 775 as a last-minute surprise!
