Exactly one month after the official unveiling, Volkswagen has started accepting pre-orders for the 2023 Touareg R eHybrid. Kicking off at €93,870 ($103,037) in Germany, the flagship model of the series brings many novelties, with the chief of Marketing and Sales at VW R, Peter Jost, praising its performance, comfort, and driving dynamics.
Powering it is a six-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine assisted by an electric motor. The total system output is 462 ps (455 hp/340 kW), with 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque combined. It takes 5.1 seconds to hit 100 kph (62 mph) and can keep pushing up to 250 kph (155 mph). The all-electric driving range of the plug-in hybrid range-topping model, which uses a 14.1 kWh battery pack, has yet to be disclosed.

Besides the punchy assembly, the 2023 Touareg R eHybrid comes with a roof load sensor capable of triggering the engagement of the electronic stability control should the vehicle need better stability. The sensor works with the updated suspension and control system to improve the driving dynamics. Illuminating the road at night are the new IQ.Light HD matrix headlamps that feature over 38,000 interactive LEDs. Volkswagen also mentions the remotely controlled parking via the available Park Assist Pro, which allows the crossover to drive in and out of parking spaces by controlling it via a smartphone.

Additional highlights differentiate it from the lesser models. It has black inserts in the front bumper, glossy black roof rails, and black tailpipes. The R logo is projected onto the asphalt from the side mirrors, and it rides on 21-inch alloys with blue brake calipers decorated by the R emblem visible behind. Volkswagen says that it can be fitted with different 21- and 22-inch wheels as an option. The exterior paint finishes comprise the Lapiz Blue and optional Sillicon Gray matte, and the rear VW logo is illuminated in red for an enhanced look-at-me stance at night.

Other features of the facelifted Touareg R eHybrid are the leather upholstery in Vienna design with Crystal Gray stitching. Sustainable Puglia leather stitched together with blue string is optional. The cockpit has all sorts of blue accents to emphasize the vehicle's electrified nature, a four-zone climate control system, a panoramic sunroof, and additional comfort and technology gizmos, including the 15-inch central touchscreen. Bedecked by the R logo, the key has a leather-covered cap.

Besides the R, the 2023 VW Touareg lineup also comprises the base model, Elegance, and R-Line. Local pricing starts at €69,200 (equal to $75,958) for the entry-level variant. The Elegance can be ordered from €75,070 ($82,401), and the R-Line will set interested parties back at least €79,660 ($87,440). Its predecessor was sold in the Touareg, Atmosphere, Elegance, and R-Line specifications, with the same R sitting at the top of the range.
