Flagship German sedans - Audi A8, Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7 Series - are some of the most searched cars on YouTube. People want to know what the latest features and technologies are because they will eventually seep down to cheaper models, like the C-Class.
Mercedes is simultaneously working on a new S-Class and C-Class (while also facelifting the E-Class). And while the flagship will undoubtedly come out first, the two are bound to have things in common.

Before this spy video, we haven't seen the W223 S-Class and W206 C-Class together in such detail. Their general styling is undoubtedly quite similar, though headlights are clearly different.

Instead of focusing on the sleekness of the roof or the fact that the door mirrors are the same, let's look at the differences instead. First of all, the S-Class is noticeably wider and much longer, featuring flush-fitting door handles that won't be available on the C-Class.

The engine ranges are bound to have differences as well. While the sweet spot of the S-Class range is bound to be the inline-6, the C-Class... might not have any. A few days ago, the rumor about a 2-liter turbo power the successor to the C63 re-surfaced. and while we'd much rather have twice that displacement, Mercedes doesn't want to invite the wrath of emissions regulators... again.

It's also a question of length, as inline-6 engines occupy more space. But with aluminum technology, the new C-Class could be lighter and thus make better use of available power.

As for the interiors, Mercedes will once again try to set the tone for the whole industry. Back in 2013, the S-Class led the way with its dual panoramic screens. Its successor will leave the display that's in front of the driver and make an even larger screen part of the lower dash, a bit like you see in this photo. We believe the C-Class will feature a similar layout.
