At the end of May, Skoda released a facelift for the Superb, its famous super-sized sedan/wagon. However, we had only limited access to photos and video footage at the time, so we decided to take another look, especially when there's now a Superb Scout as well.
The previous Superb also had a Scout version, but almost everybody forgot about it. This one seems like an insignificant project as well, especially when the Skoda Kodiaq SUV is doing so well and offers two extra seats. However, we've always had a soft spot for these off-road wagons.
It's not that they offer insane off-roading abilities, just sufficient suspension to deal with bumpy roads and a rugged style. Sure, Audi makes the most iconic model, but by the time you fit the A6 allroad with the features you need, it probably costs twice as much as this Superb Scout. And does it have twice the space? Surely not.
At first glance, the 2020 redesign is a mild one at best. However, after taking another look, we feel like the facelift has its own identity. The best way to explain it would be a comparison with professional makeup, which can sometimes make you look like a totally different person.
A crease down the bottom of the headlights makes them look new, even though their shape hasn't changed. But Skoda probably invested a good couple of million euros just to develop the Matrix LED system, which finally provides the Skoda with maximum illumination.
The lower bumper has been updated as well, with new fog lights, while at the rear, a strip of chrome connects otherwise boring taillights. It's worth noting that the black sedan in the photos is a luxury L&K model with some pretty nice leather seats. Meanwhile, the Scout draws our attention with its strange choice of wood for the dashboard trim.
