The current generation of the Lincoln Navigator, the fourth, was only launched last year, but despite this it still didn’t offer the full extent of amenities the nameplate is capable of. But an upgrade announced this week promises to add all that was missing.
The changes for 2020 are overall minor, yet subtle and very convenient. First, as a visual upgrade, the Reserve series of the Navigator can now be specified with one of three monochromatic packages: Pristine White, Ceramic Pearl and Infinite Black.

The decision to offer the Reserve version of the SUV with these body colors was made after Lincoln discovered that 90 percent of those buying a Navigator chose this trim.

“The monochromatic palette emphasizes the strong lines of the Navigator,” said in a statement Earl Lucas, Lincoln chief designer. “It’s a perfect color scheme for a full-size luxury SUV, and it offers clients another way to personalize their new Navigator.”

But perhaps it is not the color that will draw more customers to the brand, but the improvements made in terms of technology. And at the top of the list sits the possibility of unlocking and starting the car using a smartphone.

In Lincoln speak, this ability is called Phone As A Key and was first introduced on the Aviator. For the Navigator, it will be offered as standard, allowing customers to lock and unlock, open the liftgate and start the car.

Complementing Phone As A Key are other technological wonders offered as standard, like a wireless charging pad, the Co-Pilot360 suite of driver-assist systems and heated and ventilated front-row seats.

The Navigator equipped with all these new goodies will hit the market in November. The company did not say whether all the extra tech will mean some extra money to be paid when purchasing one of these SUVs.
