2020 Genesis G80 Could Look Like This

The original Hyundai Genesis became the G80 when the brand separated a few years ago. It's a good luxury sedan, but the current generation is nearing the end of its life cycle.
A replacement is on its way, and several prototypes have already been spotted all over the world - Korea, China, America, and even the Nurburgring. Of course, all of them are camouflaged, but there's a way to get around that: with a good rendering.

This is only the first one, but it's likely to be the best as well. Korean designer Koo Ki Sung, otherwise known as KKS Studios, has been very accurate with his work in the past few months, and the G80 he presented is quite similar to the spyshots.

We must say that while we hated the camouflaged models, this version seems dignified and strong, like a better Infiniti or a restrained Lexus. The front end is dominated by a shield-shaped grille, with the same mesh being used in the lower intakes.

The prototype spies at the Nurburgring didn't have this grille, but the one in America did. So clearly, Genesis plans to have more than one line, just like Mercedes and BMW do, though guessing which is which is tricky at this moment.

So far, the 5 Series rival remains a mystery. One area where the G80 desperately needs improving is weight, as the model is hundreds of kilos more massive than its competitors. But that's down to the platform, which is something we've seen the smaller G70 improve upon.

New engines are reportedly on their way too. Even though Genesis has a perfectly adequate 2-liter, it's working on a 2.5-liter that could fit a number of platforms and develops between 250 and 300 horsepower. We don't mind that at all, nor are we bothered by a pure EV version with 300 miles of range. The Korean automakers have knocked it out of the park with their recent hybrid and electric cars.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
