One of the super-SUVs that deserves credit for making the genre so popular is almost ready to welcome a new generation. I'm referring to the 2020 BMW X5 M, a model that currently sees engineers completing the final stages of testing.
An example of the Bavarian monster was recently spotted on the German Autobahn, as you'll be able to notice in the social media post at the bottom of the page.
And since the fourth-generation X5, which serves as a base for the upcoming M car, has received plenty of praise since its introduction, you can expect the nearly-out-of-the-oven range-topper to be a hit.
After all, the F90 BMW M5 has taught us what to expect from the M-branded Sports Activity Vehicle. Thus, the engine compartment of the machine will be occupied by a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8, while the unit is set to work with a quick eight-speed automatic.
Now, as the 2019 X3 M and X4 M have shown, the German automotive producer has expanded the Competition trim to its high-riders.
Mix the two pieces of info above and you'll get to the conclusion there will be a standard X5 M, if such a term might be used, which will deliver around 600 hp, along with a X5 M Competition packing at least 625 ponies. Alas, I'm not expecting the RWD-only mode of the super-sedan to return, so drifters won't be pleased.
Once again, the BMW X5 M will be joined by an X6 M, with the two sharing the oily bits. In fact, here's a prototype of the 2020 BMW X6 M playing on the Green Hell.
