Christmas is just around the corner, and Ram thought to capitalize on that theme with the North Edition. Based on the 1500 pickup, this special edition is “geared toward truck owners who need more capability and warmth on their frozen drive.”
As you found out from the headline, the makeover starts with the factory lift kit that raises the ground clearance by one inch. An electronic-locking rear axle and 4x4 transfer case with Auto, High, and Low settings are also included, along with three-peak mountain snowflake tires from Falken.

Tow hooks, an engine block heater, remote start, and all-weather floor mats from Mopar are standard too, to which Ram also adds heated mirrors, seats, and steering wheel. To make life behind the wheel easier, the 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system comes with SiriusXM Travel Link Weather.

“The Ram 1500 North is more than a great-looking pickup, it offers cold-weather content for truck owners who require a no-compromise 4x4 as part of their daily regimen,” declared Reid Bigland, head of the truck manufacturer. “A factory lift, locking rear axle, and all-weather tires deliver confidence when your path is anything but clear.”

Available at dealers now, the 1500 North Edition started life as the Big Horn in Crew Cab configuration. Customers can choose either the short or long bed, and the engine options include the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with eTorque mild-hybrid technology or the 5.7-liter HEMI V8. Retail pricing starts at $45,890 excluding the $1,695 for destination and delivery.

Active safety is at home in the 1500 North Edition, joining the technological onslaught with blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. Depending on specification, the light-duty pickup can tow up to 12,750 pounds. With 2,300 pounds of payload, there’s no denying Ram did a fine job.

Customers who aren’t prepared to pony up $31,795 for the entry-level model can go for the 1500 Classic. The previous generation will be produced well into 2019, and pricing starts at $27,295 for the Tradesman in Regular Cab flavor with the 305-horsepower Pentastar V6.
