When it comes to luxurious pickup trucks, Shaquille O’Neal knows his stuff. After taking delivery of a Ford F-650 last year, the basketball legend added an example of the 2019 Ram 1500 to his garage.
At $31,795 for the Tradesman Quad Cab 4x2 with the 6’4” box, the fifth-generation Ram isn’t cheap by light-duty truck standards. But Shaq chose the most expensive trim level available, the Limited Crew Cab 4x4 with the 6’4” box and 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with eTorque mild-hybrid technology. Minus the $1,695 destination charge, this pickup retails in the ballpark of $60,000.
But Shaq didn’t stop here. The Hall of Fame inductee chose 26-inch Concavo wheels from Forgiato, painted to match the paintwork. Those wheels add at least $10,000 to the price of the truck, which is a lot of greenback for most truck buyers. Last, but certainly not least, the window tint rounds off the list of modifications.
Even though the Ford F-150 Limited can give the Ram a run for its money, the 1500 Limited has the upper hand in terms of luxury thanks to the five-link coil suspension at the rear, progressive coil springs, Frequency Response Damping, and leather upholstery. The Limited also comes with the largest-in-class touchscreen infotainment system, the Uconnect 12.0 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Standard features for the range-topping Ram also include Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Path and Trailer Detection, wireless charging for Qi-enabled smartphones, and many more. The most powerful audio system in the segment is also available as part of the Level 1 Equipment Group ($2,995), along with a panoramic sunroof that adds $1,495 to the retail price.
Over at General Motors, the Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 aren’t far behind if you choose the High Country or Denali. But as opposed to Ford and Ram, General Motors doesn’t plan to electrify its pickup trucks anytime soon, instead choosing to invest in the core business of the group.
