Even though the French automotive industry can be summed up as Renault and Groupe PSA, the truth of the matter is that Bugatti originates from France as well. And for the Chiron Divo, the Molsheim-based automaker wants to make sure that you know where Ettore Bugatti set up shop in 1909. On the flip side, Molsheim had been a part of Germany from 1871 to 1919.
In addition to a teaser clip revealing the car’s taillight design, the Volkswagen Group-controlled automaker also released an image of the aero blade. Made from carbon fiber and beautified by the French flag, this piece of aerodynamic trickery is one of many add-ons that sets the Divo apart from the Sport and bone-stock Chiron.

Lighter than both of them and “built for corners” according to the chief executive of Bugatti, the Chiron Divo could be inspired by the Vision Gran Turismo presented in 2015 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. More capability in the twisties will take its toll on top speed. Alas, don’t expect the newcomer to be as fast as the 420-km/h Chiron.

Limited to 40 examples for the entire world, the Divo also happens to be the most expensive Bugatti of the modern era at €5 million without even looking at the options list. The “new, strong design language” is intertwined with the superior handling capabilities, and for what it’s worth, the Divo won’t look anything like the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport of other performance-oriented Bugs from the past decade.

To be unveiled on August 24th at the Monterey Car Week alongside the Sky View roof option for the Chiron, the third member of the family also happens to sound a lot more aggressive than its brothers. This might translate to more suck-squeeze-bang-blow from the 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16, but only time will tell if Bugatti can make a case for more than 1,500 PS (1,478 horsepower) and 1,600 Nm (1,180 pound-feet) of torque.

Last, but certainly not least, Divo comes from French racing driver Albert Divo. And Chiron, as it happens, is sourced from a Monegasque racing driver going by the name of Louis Chiron. You know that Bugatti is up to no good when it uses the names of two of its most iconic racing drivers, alright!
