Following the unveiling of the all-new Continental GT in 2017 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Bentley had some problems with the grand tourer’s roll out in Europe because of the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure. In the process, the Bentayga waved goodbye to the 4.0 TDI V8 turbo diesel from the Audi SQ7. Even worse, Bentley lost €137 million in the first nine months of 2018.
Fast-forward to the present day, and the ultra-luxury manufacturer from Crewe is much obliged to turn the tide with the all-new Continental GTC. More expensive and heavier than the fixed-head coupe, the open-top grand tourer can fold the roof in 19 seconds at speeds of up to 30 mph (50 km/h).

Tweed is available as an option for the roof, a material we mostly associate with one’s favorite jacket. According to Bentley, the tweed soft top is superior to the standard top because it reduces the noise that gets into the cabin by… wait for it… three decibels.

Tipping the scale at 5,322 pounds (2,414 kilograms), the Continental GTC is a lot heavier than the Continental GT (4,947 pounds or 2,244 kilograms) with the 6.0-liter W12 engine. As ever, the twin-turbocharged blunderbuss has 626 horsepower to offer along with a mountain of torque that enables the ultra-luxury land missile to hit 60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds.

Even though it accelerates one-tenth slower than the coupe-bodied sibling, the Continental GTC is much obliged to max out at 207 mph (333 km/h) with the top closed. On the technological front, the 12.3-inch infotainment system complementing the digital instrument cluster are the highlights, along with the Naim 18-speaker audio system (2,200 watts) and 20-way power adjustable front seats.

First deliveries are scheduled for the earliest part of 2019 for the 2019 model year, and pricing hasn’t been announced for the time being. Taking the coupe as a reference ($214,600 before destination charge), we’re certain this fellow here is priced in the ballpark of $235,000.
