It shouldn’t come as a surprise to you that the 2017 Subaru Impreza looks exactly as the current model. That’s because Subaru isn’t the type of manufacturer that mends something which isn’t broken. Instead of that, the Japanese company has improved the Impreza in every way possible.
I admit that it doesn’t look that different from the 2016 model year. I admit that the taillights of the sedan seem oversized. Designers could’ve designed the dashboard with more flair. But you know what? I’m not the type of gearhead to be put off by the smallest of imperfections.
To go on sale later this year in base, Premium, Sport, and Limited trim levels, the US-built 2017 Subaru Impreza comes in two flavors: Sedan and Hatchback. Under the hood, you’ll find a revised 2.0-liter four-cylinder boxer engine which is garnished with direct fuel injection.
Compared to the current FB engine, the one in the 2017 Subaru Impreza has more horsepower (152 HP) and it promises better fuel economy. The upper trim levels come with a Lineartronic CVT that features a 7-speed manual mode. And yes, you can use the steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters to shift from one ratio to another.
Size-wise, the 2017 Subaru Impreza is 1.6 inches (4 cm) longer and 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) wider. Despite the fact that the Impreza decreased in height by 0.4 inches (1 cm), the longer wheelbase makes for a roomier cabin than the 2016 model year Subaru Impreza. On the handling front, all trim levels come with double-wishbone independent rear suspension that mounts the rear stabilizer bar directly to the body. This helps reduce body roll by 50 percent compared to the current Impreza.
Each and every trim level also comes as standard with Symmetrical AWD, but Active Torque Vectoring is present only on trim levels higher than the Sport. More information on the 2017 Subaru Impreza can be found in the release attached below. Preliminary specs are in the attached PDF.
