Reviewing the Kia Soul has always been a "what is it?" rather than a "how good is it?" affair. That's because this car has never made any sense if you look at it from a conventional car view. It's not like a subcompact, nor is it a true crossover since it has no AWD.
People used to think that that it's Kia's answer to the MINI, in the sense that it's a lifestyle choice. But our two cents says it's the car Kia came up with then trying to answer the same question as Renault did when it came up with the Captur.
Like all other Kias, the Soul is all about improvement. The second generation model which came out at this year's New York Auto Show is larger, better styled and features more kit than ever. It might not be a real SUV, but then some people really would trade those two extra driving wheels for a couple of powered mirrors and powered seats.
