The new 2014 Chevrolet Impala is one more indicator of an emerging domestic renaissance. No, that’s not our statement, it’s what Consumer Reports said after putting the US-built vehicle atop its sedan rankings.
Surprised? We are as well, so you don’t need to worry. Just remember that the 2013 Impala was at the bottom of the same list with a mediocre 63-point test score. Chevy must have found its long lost magic wand because the revamped Impala just scored 95 points, the best results clinched by a sedan.

Surpassed only by the Tesla Model S and the BMW 135i coupe in the overall rank, the 2014 Chevrolet Impala became the first American car to top Consumer Reports’ sedan ratings in two decades!

So what makes the new Impala a 95-point “Excellent” vehicle? CR says the sedan delivered “surprisingly agile handling, capable acceleration, and excellent braking”, while cornering “quite well for a large car” with “nicely weighted” steering. The vehicle is “secure, responsive, balanced, and easy to control”. Moreover, the Impala was found to be “competitive with cars that cost $20,000 more, including the Audi A6 and Lexus LS460L, as well as the recently reviewed Acura RLX and Jaguar XF.”
