Ford is still at the top of its game in the US pickup market, thanks in part to the EcoBoost V6 but also to its good reputation, but Chevrolet thinks it has the answer in the all-new 2014 Silverado.
The new pickup truck was unveiled earlier this year. It comes with a number of innovations, chief among them being a brand new engine family which uses direct injection and in the case of the V8 even cuts fuel to half the cylinders under light loads.

Chevy knows that most pickup drivers actually want car features, so MyLink, and a number of luxury features are making their way inside the Silverado for the 2014 model year.

Consumer Reports like most of the things GM has done to make the 2014 model better, except maybe for the Z71 off road package which ruins an otherwise excellent ride.

GM has stuck with conventional V8 and V6 engines, essentially new versions of engine blocks that have existed since for decades. Truck repair and maintenance is always a big issue with consumers, which would explain why the didn't follow Ford's turbocharging trend. On the other hand, the Silverado will probably take a lot of flak for being more car-like than ever.
