2013 is the year of the mid-size and large sedan. Everybody has a new model with a better engine, new design and clever features. Chevrolet is no exception, having launched a new Malibu last year and the 2014 Impala to spearhead its sedan range.
The 2014 full-size is built on a new platform shared with Buick and Cadillac models. It's lighter, so it doesn't need an overgrown V8 engine, working with just 2.5 liters of four-banger displacement, though initial models will come with a V6.
Consumer Reports tested the new Impala and found it rides better than the older 2012 models and even than the new Toyota Avalon. The good news is that the dash centers around a simple touchscreen and has normal buttons, unlike Cadillac's over engineered CUE system.
The design work what impressed us the most. The flagship sedan features bulging wheelarches, which at the back intertwine with the angles of the door.
