Honda is doing a recall on its Odyssey minivan for problems to do with its side. No, it’s not that the sides are too boring, but that the airbags located there aren’t working properly. We’re not talking about some run-down vans from the 90s either, but the 2014 Odyssey with updates launched just last year.
No less than 24,889 vehicles are being called back to Honda dealers in order to fix a problem with the curtain airbags. A problem has appeared which could result in the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) warning light to flash for no reason. In a worse-case-scenario of an actual crash, the airbags might not deploy altogether.

No incidents of this happening have been reported yet, so they caught it early. Owners will be notified of the recall beginning on May 16th, 2014. The fix will of course be free of charge and shouldn’t take more than a day.

The problem arose during assembly of the car. According to Honda, “the electrical coupler for the side curtain airbag on the passenger's side of the vehicle, it is possible that the shorting terminal, which is used to prevent deployment of the airbag before it is assembled into the vehicle, may have been damaged.”

Figuring out if your vehicle is affected should be pretty easy. The 2014 Odyssey was launched just last year, its main highlighting being a vacuum cleaner conveniently installed in the trunk of the car. However, if you’re still not sure if your minivan is cause for worry, contact Honda at (800) 999-1009 or go only to www.recalls.honda.com.
