For basketball fans, the name Dennis Rodman needs little introduction. Born in 1961, the American knew fame in the 1980s and 1990s wearing the colors of famous NBA teams like the Detroit Pistons, San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, LA Lakers, and most recently Dallas Mavericks.
The man's long NBA career translates into 911 professional games played, a 52.1 field goal percentage, and an average of 7.3 points per game. He was the Basketball Times National Player of the Year in 1986, ranked number 48 in the SLAM Magazine's Top 50 Players of All-time (2009), and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2011.

There is of course much more to Dennis Rodman than the lines above, including an unlikely connection with one of the world's last hardcore dictators, North Korea's Kim Jong Un, but those stats should go a long way in establishing a baseline of how much a car the NBA player once owned might be worth for the right Rodman fan.

The car in question is a 1989 Ford Mustang Saleen SSC that's the object of an online auction over at Bring a Trailer. Rodman was its first owner, meaning the two have been a pair at a time when the player was still enjoying the fruits of his basketball court labors.

The Saleen Mustang SSC was one of the most cherished modified muscle cars of its era, and it even held the title for fastest and most powerful new Mustang available for a while. That was all due to a reworked 5.0-liter V8 engine, which could deliver close to 300 hp.

That same engine is fitted under the hood of this car as well, tied to a BorgWarner T-5 five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The suspension system comes in the form of Racecraft and Bilstein hardware, although some alterations compared to what the car originally had on have been performed (not by Dennis Rodman, though). The connection to the road is made by means of white 16-inch wheels.

The exterior of the car shows a lot of the telltale Saleen gear, in the form of a modified rear spoiler, a front air dam, side skirts, and rear valance. The car comes in Oxford White with gray detailing and has all the proper Saleen SSC graphics in all the right places.

Just like all the others of its kind, the Mustang is equipped with adjustable bucket seats, a 10-speaker sound system centered around a Pioneer CD stereo, and even a four-point rollbar. As a touch of uniqueness, Steve Saleen's signature can be seen on the right side of the dashboard.

The Mustang has long left Rodman's possession, with its current seller having it in his garage since 2007. The car, number 121 in the run of 161 produced in this configuration, shows 87,000 miles (140,000 km) of use.

At the time of writing, with four days left in the bidding process, the highest someone is willing to offer for it is $35,000.
