Mercury Montego came to be in 1968, with the first model year offered as part of the Comet series. However, the carmaker eventually decided to make Montego a separate series, with the MX trim becoming the upgraded version with more standard equipment.
A 1968 Montego MX landed on eBay earlier this week, and the car flexes something you don't see too often. It's a mostly unmolested survivor, though it does come with a problem you can see from the moon.

The first thing you must know is that the car has always been properly cared for and now comes with "many new parts" while also exhibiting an impressive shape. It makes sense, given the car has been used as a daily driver, though it's still impressive for a car this old to come without any tears in the seats or the carpet.

The car rolled off the assembly lines with a 302 V8 engine, and the same mill is still inside. It starts and runs properly, so the Mercury is ready to take you anywhere without any repairs. The 302 was the base V8 on the first Montego, but Mercury eventually upgraded the lineup with more powerful options, including a 460 V8.

Now, let's talk about the most obvious problem.

The car previously suffered damage on the left rear door, and another owner repaired it by respraying the metal from the front door to the rear quarter. eBay seller thefalconer says the quality of the paint is top-notch, but the problem is that the paint color doesn't match the original. It's an obvious difference, so if you're a collector and would want to park a first-year Montego in your garage, you might want to go for a professional respray.

The Montego is otherwise a fantastic survivor that doesn't exhibit any concerning problems. You won't find too much rust on the car, except for a few occasional spots, but any good mechanic should be able to deal with them quite easily.

The Mercury Montego isn't necessarily the most desirable car, so the owner can't have big expectations regarding the selling price. The bidding starts at $5,400, but the good news is that it comes without a reserve. It takes just a single offer for this Montego to find a new home, so fingers crossed for someone to spot the car and buy it.

The easiest way to determine the car's complete condition and decide if it's worth the asking price is to see it in person. It's currently located in Joppa, Maryland, and you shouldn't need a trailer to take it home, considering it's already serving as a daily driver. The odometer indicates approximately 83,000 miles, all believed to be original.
