You know what Ford has that Tesla doesn't, besides nearly a 100-year head start? A performance division. That's a group of people who think of nothing else than how to make cars go quick. So, while all Teslas have performance levels that are very good or beyond, Ford can pick up the phone and ask for even more than that.
And that's exactly what it got in the Mach-E 1400, a radical sporty conversion of the electric crossover that produces 1,400 peak horsepower from no fewer than seven motors. It sounds a bit ridiculous to have more motors than wheels, but the three entities involved in this project (Ford, RTR, and Ford Performance) had a very good reason for it.

The motors aren't dedicated to one axle or the other, meaning the colossal amount of power can be redistributed as seen fit. All-wheel-drive? No problem. Front-wheel-drive? Can't see why you would want that, but sure. Rear-wheel-drive? I thought you would never ask. The Ford Mustang Mach-E is not just powerful, but also very versatile with its power.

It doesn't look too bad either. The one-off prototype is built off a Mustang Mach-E GT body-in-white, so all the elements of the standard crossover are there to be found. However, you might have to look behind the crazy new aero elements, wide fenders and huge tail wing included. Speaking of wings, Ford says the Mach-E 1400 should develop over 2,300 lbs (1,043 kg) of downforce at 160 mph (257 km/h). Not enough to keep it stuck to the ceiling of a tunnel, but impressive, nevertheless.

The seven motors are powered by a 56.8 kWh battery pack that uses nickel manganese cobalt cells for quicker discharge. Ford doesn't say how long the Mach-E 1400 can drive between charges, but we would assume it's not a lot. When it does charge, the battery is designed to also be cooled, making it ready for another go in less time.

Exciting as the car is, all this information alone would still be boring. Luckily, Ford also included a clip in the launch package that features a lot more than just the Mach-E 1400. The extreme electric crossover is joined by other members of the Ford Performance family, including Ken Block and his Hoonigan Mustang, a 2019 Ford NASCAR Mustang, a 2020 Ford Mustang GT350R, and a 2020 Ford Mustang RTR. It's a cool video for a cool car.

Editor's note: It even has rear seats, meaning if you're good and drink your milk, you might get a ride someday. Though you might end up regretting drinking the milk.
