Ford’s Australian wing today announced that it will introduce the 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbocharged EcoBoost engine in the new EcoSport crossover, a vehicle that is set to make its debut at the Australian International Motor Show.
The powerplant delivers up to 125 hp and 170 Nm of torque between 1,300 and 4,500 rpm, while emitting under 140 grams of CO2 per km. To achieve this, the unit relies on tech goodies such as turbocharging, direct injection and Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT).
“The 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine has already been voted the 2012 “International Engine of the Year” and is continuing to receive rave reviews in Europe,” according to Bob Graziano, Ford Australia President and CEO. “It will be the perfect complement to our EcoBoost family of engines, which are already available in the Mondeo and Falcon, as well as the new Focus ST.
