Since a diesel version of the Ford Fusion will not be available Stateside, the hybrid version is the one to go for, if fuel efficiency is at the top of your priorities. The Fusion Hybrid has just gotten its official EPA sticker, which states that it will average 47 US mpg, both in the city and the highway. This equates to 56.5 UK mpg or 5.0 l/100km.
It beats its main rival, the Toyota Camry Hybrid by a respectable 4 mpg in the city and 8 mpg on the highway, or 6 mpg combined. Its 2.0-liter petrol engine works in tandem with an electric motor, which can also work on its own, pushing the car to 100 km/h (62 mph) on electricity alone.

The Fusion Hybrid is set to arrive in US dealerships later this fall. Pricing information has yet to be released, but if it also undercuts the Camry Hybrid on price, then it will have the niche pretty much all to itself.
