Would You Do This to Your Mercedes-AMG G 63?

Mercedes has struck gold with the second-generation G-Wagen. Not only does it retain the iconic look of its predecessors, albeit in a slightly more modern-looking package, but it also is a great performer off the beaten path with a premium twist.
Its driving credentials, hairy-chested look, and desirable three-pointed star logo have turned it into a popular ride for deep-pocketed enthusiasts, some of whom have tuned theirs to the teeth. There are countless upgrades available for it from numerous tuners, and some of the most controversial have Mansory's name written all over them.

We've never been fans of the Mercedes G-Wagens tuned by Mansory, and the latest that we came across makes no exception. It is a flashy off-roader dressed in a light green hue that would be more suitable for Lamborghinis and features numerous add-ons with a forged carbon look, from the hood, roof elements, and side skirts to the bumper inserts and a few other things.

A symbol of modern-day high-end Mercedes-AMGs, the Panamericana grille was swapped for an aftermarket one, but at least this G 63 retains its side exhaust layout. The tips appear to have come from the controversial tuner, and the wheels, which look a bit too elegant for such a brash proposal, as well as the Mansory logos, round off the exterior makeover.

Any Mercedes G-Wagen, regardless of whether it's a Benz or an AMG, deserves a dark interior with no OTT touches. However, this one has received a bit too much white, with the new high-end leather upholstery wrapped around nearly every touchable surface. To tie it to the exterior, the cockpit also features some green accents. Mansory’s name decorates numerous elements, and the push-button start was relocated to the roof.

Christened the P850, this Mercedes-AMG G 63 has 850 metric horses on tap, equaling 838 brake horsepower or 625 kilowatts. The tuned bi-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine kicks out 1,000 Nm (738 lb-ft) of torque, 150 Nm (111 lb-ft) more than the stock one, and the output has increased by 265 ps (261 hp/195 kW). Mansory says the 0-100 kph (0-62 mph) takes 3.5 seconds, a one-second improvement, and the top speed has gone up to 250 kph (155 mph) from 220 kph (137 mph).

Mansory has several other power boosts available for the G 63, including one that brings 900 ps (887 hp/662 kW) and 1,200 Nm (885 lb-ft) of torque to the party for even quicker takeoffs. And to us, the extra oomph is the only thing appealing about their takes on the G-Wagen, as most of them look ridiculous. That said, if you happened to own (or perhaps you already do) a new Mercedes-AMG G 63, would you ever consider giving it a Mansory widebody kit and a flashy interior?
