Today, the overabundance of model introductions – just during the second quarter of 2023, 43 new production vehicles were revealed worldwide – can easily justify the 'killing' of many nameplates. But what if someone decided to help them all come back to life and haunt our dreams through the power of AI?
They don't have any vengeful intentions, frankly, if we are to trust the digital creators. Instead, they just wanted some AI-generated images to imagine how some of the most iconic or least desirable discontinued vehicles could look in the near future if automakers ever decided to bring them all back to life. That would undoubtedly be a Mission: Impossible-style effort in real life, but nothing is beyond their reach across the imaginative realm of digital car content creators.

Especially if AI-powered tools are also on point to help speed things up. As such, don't get scared of the overabundance of nameplates, and just take your pics to select a few favorites. The authors at Scrap Car Comparison, for example, used the marvels of the latest cutting-edge technology to revive no less than 39 nameplates and only selected three of them – the Cadillac Coupe de Ville, DMC DeLorean, and Volkswagen Beetle as their absolute favorites.

Just about any fan favorite – like the Dodge Challenger – has found its space in the AI-designed theme, which includes "sharing similar features (such as) larger wheels, extensive use of LED lights and extremely slim or no wing mirrors whatsoever." Still, there are also a few duds we know they should never see the light of day again. So, here's our list of five picks for the positive vote and another batch that we think should be buried and forgotten as soon as possible.

On the plus side, we have the AMC Eagle, one of the first crossover vehicles in history, which looks ready for anything in a decidedly compact, 4x4 sports car format that would go toe-to-toe with the 911 Dakar if allowed. There is also the Dodge Challenger but not also its Charger sibling, which just looks like any generic sleek sedan an AI-powered tool would create if asked to imagine the looks of an aerodynamic snail. Thirdly, we have the Cadillac Coupe de Ville, and it could quickly be accompanied by a futuristic Chevy Impala if anyone wants something much more affordable. The Volkswagen Beetle also looks as slick as butter, and we also don't mind the minimalist reinterpretation of the Nissan Skyline series.

On the other hand, the Austin Metro, BMW Z8, Chevrolet Spark, Dodge Viper, Fiat Punto, Ford Ka, Hummer H2, Morris Minor, and VW Passat are definitely a no-go if you want our two cents on the matter. The other revived nameplates, meanwhile, are entirely passable – but also a bit too easy to forget about all over again! So, which one is your favorite entry from the list?
