The name Panda has been attributed to the first Fiat small family hatchback back in 1980, when the boxy first generation car burst onto the scene. It spawned numerous Fiat and Seat badged cars, including a van and electric version.
Its production ran for a record 23 years, before it was replaced, in 2003 by the ‘new Panda’, a car which was originally supposed to be called the ‘Gingo’, but the name was dropped as it was deemed to be too similar to ‘Twingo’. Now, the ‘new Panda’ has been replaced by an all new car, called the Panda. Instead of ditching its predecessor’s image (like the 2003 car, which added two doors and grew considerably is size), the 2012 model is a very successful evolution of that car which builds on its strengths, instead of trying something all-new.

Fiat have just released a video which shows how the all-new Panda is being built. The manufacturer has invested over €800- ($987-) million in the modernization and re-fittment of the very large Pomigliano production facility, in the south of Italy, near Naples. The cars are built with extreme precision by robots which really show us how redundant we are when it comes to manual labor. One thing is clear: Fiat really does know how to build a small car - they are, in fact, at the top of the pack.
