According to a recent report from Auto Express, a hot version of the all-new Fiat Panda will be sold under the Abarth brand starting in 2013. However, don’t expect this to be a city compact turned pocked rocket, because it will be more worm than hot.
If the idea of a hot Panda sound familiar, we’ll remind you that they had a little something called the Panda 100HP, which offered a massive... 100 hp from its 1.4-liter engine. It wasn’t really a top performed with its 0-100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration time of 9.5 seconds and top speed of 185 km/h (115 mpg), but it was good enough for first-time drivers who wanted to go fast.
It’s much the same story with the 2013 Abarth Panda, which will use a 112 hp turbocharged 875cc TwinAir engine, which won’t scare most diesels away. However, it will be relatively cheap at around £15,000, and it will have the usual Abarth paint and wheels that people seam to love.
