Hybrid vehicles are always bought for their promise of superior economy and efficiency figures, over their conventionally-powered stablemates, or most other regular cars, for that matter. Manufacturers strive to make their hybrids as efficient and appealing as possible, yet VW has taken a slightly different approach with the yet-to-be-launched Jetta Hybrid.
The manufacturer has not yet released any official efficiency figures, but they say unofficially that it should get just over 45 MPG on the highway, and while it may not be as efficient as the Toyota Prius, VW say the Jetta Hybrid makes a very competent case for itself. It has the best fuel efficiency in the entire range, it is the only hybrid with a turbocharged engine and dual-clutch gearbox, and it has the best performance and handling characteristics, as well. It is also more spacious than its rivals and has the biggest trunk.
Starting at $24,995, the Jetta Hybrid, with its 1.4-liter turbocharged engine is an interesting pick in an increasingly-crowded sector, and instead of standing out through outright efficiency, it promises to be a better overall package than anything the competition has to offer. Only time and sales figures will prove the prior statement to be true or false, though.
