The Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid greeted everyone at the Detroit Auto Show, saying that it’s the fastest compact hybrid in the world in preparation for its US market launch, which is scheduled for the current year.
The vehicle is powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine that produces 152 hp and a peak torque of 184 lb-ft (250 Nm), which works with a 27 hp electric motor, which uses a 1.1 kWh battery. The overall output sits at 170 hp, which pushes vehicle past the 62 mile mark in under 9 seconds and offers an average fuel efficiency of 45 US mpg (5.2 liters per 100 km or 5.4 liters per 100 km.
The Jetta hybrid also comes with an all-electric mode, which can be used for up to 1.2 miles (1.9 km) and 44 mph (71 km/h). The powertrain also includes a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, a start/stop system and regenerative brakes, but this doesn’n’t mean that the car is much heavier than a standard Jetta: it is 100 kg fatter.
