I know I've talked about the new Golf R way too much, but it really is an impressive machine. Ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week, Volkswagen has dropped a lot more photos of a 3-door model (5-door should also be available) being driven on the track.
These photos reveal the little details potential owners are going to want to see. For example, the taillights are very clearly tinted in black. Beyond the huge alloy wheels, the quad exhaust it stole from the S3 and the bigger intakes, the Golf R is simply trying to be the best version of the Golf, which it needs to be since it costs so much. Parking sensors, LED headlights, silver mirror caps and a full leather interior have been fitted. The R also has carbon fiber trim inside, surrounding the light switch and the sides of the DSG box's gear stick.

But the most important Golf R news I can give you today is that it's likely coming to the US. Building a case for the outgoing model was really hard, and the car arrived Stateside in a semi-diluted form, with less power and equipment. But a press release from the VW US Media Newsroom talks about the 300 PS Golf R as having "296 horsepower" and achieving 34 mpg.

That doesn't mean it's been confirmed yet, but pulling the R out of the US right as the most impressive version ever comes out doesn't make sense.
