It may seem redundant to aim for eco-friendly sea-faring ships when that's really how the yachting industry started, but everything has its purpose. After all, engines help you move when wind isn't available, so that's really what we're making "green" again. One crew doing just that is VisionF.
Back in 2020, the yachting industry would be graced with yet another contender looking to secure a place in one of the most cutthroat industries on the planet, VisionF, a shipyard born in Turkey, a country that has seen countless new shipyards popping up in recent years. There has to be a reason for this, and we can let VisionF show us why this country has been getting so much attention as of late.

While VisionF is a rather fresh crew, their designs are bold, to say the least, often based around a catamaran design, so you know that comfort is part of what you'll be paying for if you ever go for something like this. Secondly, I mentioned the phrase "eco-friendly," and the reason is that VisionF often showcases their ships covered in solar panels and often driven by hybrid or all-electric propulsion systems.

Now, the beauty before us today is dubbed the VisionF 82 ALU, and as you would expect, that "ALU" stands for aluminum, denoting the type of material used to craft the 82's hull. Why is this important? Well, VisionF features quite the lineup of catamarans, some coming in with a length of 100 feet or more, some of which are crafted with nothing more than carbon fiber and Kevlar.

While I'm no expert in naval architecture, the base material chosen for a hull is a huge factor in what sort of seas that vessel will handle. Good ol' aluminum for the win. Another side of things is that it's generally cheaper to craft a ship out of this timeless alloy rather than carbon fiber or Kevlar, savings that are sure to be passed down to any future customers. Oh, and if I need to be plain about things, the 82 is currently up for grabs through a number of brokers, including the folks over at Northrop & Johnson. It's time to see what we can get our hands on.

Overall, a catamaran design is somewhat limited in the amount of space it places at an owner's disposal, caused by the massive lift in the center of the hull. But, where space is lost vertically, catamarans make up in lateral definition; the 82 showcases a nearly 40-foot (12 m) beam. Still, the 82 presents three decks vertically. A draft of under three feet means that you might just be able to launch your 82 on some neighborhood pond; just kidding, but you get the idea.

Now, the uppermost deck is technically the sun deck, ready with lounging and dining options, but the 82 and other catamarans like it have that massive hardshell bimini, which is covered by a huge solar panel array. While it's not clear just how much energy is captured by these cells or where it even goes, some of it is sure to help operate essential systems like plumbing, electrical, and a few others. Maybe it's all meant for a pair of electric or hybrid engines; it's not clear yet.

Don't worry, though; that lack of sun to crisp up your dermal layers is not permanent, and if you want to get your tan on, all you and your guest have to do is head down to the main deck, specifically at the bow of the 82 where a "get crispy" station awaits you sun-loving soul. Be sure to use sunscreen.

On the main deck, we're also invited to enjoy a meal at an alfresco dining lounge, or, if your belly is full, just sit around and chat with your guests. Maybe you'd like some privacy. If that's the case, take a stroll inside the large lounge with darkened floor-to-ceiling walls to help keep prying eyes out but always let you enjoy the world around you.

Regarding the sort of furnishing and interior styling we can look forward to, be sure to check out the images in the gallery. However, please note that what we see are just renderings, and the eventual interior you receive can be different and often tapered to a future owner's needs, wants, and likes. To give us an idea of what's possible, I've added a few images of other VisionF projects.

It's also important to note that VisionF also aims to give their future customers a yachting experience they won't soon forget or even pass up, and the way they're making sure this happens is by offering us a vessel that's aimed at outdoor living and activities. Heck, each hull or pontoon even features diving platforms from which you can dive into the local waters.

Finally, I would like to point out a bit about catamaran yachts in general; they're hella comfortable! Couple that with the sort of interior and exterior spaces I've described here, and what do you have? A ship that's ready to taper to those of us with enough moolah in the bank to live it up in utter eco-friendly luxury. Have you fallen in love with the VisionF 82 ALU? You know what you have to do from here.
