Storied Italian shipbuilder Benetti, which celebrates its 150th anniversary this year, stole the limelight at the prestigious Monaco Yacht Show last week, where it presented no less than five new projects, all equally exciting. One of the highlights was a full-custom superyacht concept called "Project Life" that embodies all the principles of luxury yacht design: quality, innovation, and exclusiveness.
All the projects introduced by the shipyard at the event come with cutting-edge features and are collaborations with world-leading architecture and design studios. Project Life is no exception, having been developed in partnership with Monaco-based Espen Øino, who took care of the exterior design, and Francois Zuretti, who penned the yacht's interiors.
The 279-foot (85-meter) custom superyacht concept aims to reinvent onboard living and enhance the yachting experience by going against conventional yacht design practices.
Designed around the concept of "al-fresco living," Project Life focuses on open spaces that invite conviviality, welcoming conversations and engendering a deeper connection with the sea.
"All the spaces aboard Project Life are designed for a new kind of social entertainment with large convivial areas and reconfigurable meeting places on each deck," said Giovanna Vitelli, chair of the Azimut-Benetti Group.
An evocative example in this respect is the large main saloon with a revolving lounge that changes its focal point depending on the time of day. The lounging area is also surrounded by extensive glazing, allowing guests onboard to stay in sync with the surrounding ocean.
Another highlight of the new design is a massive foldout swim platform astern, with "activity zones" on either side of the beach club. A large swimming pool with transparent walls can be found above the transom, with a raised area for al-fresco dining nearby.
The Zuretti-penned interiors are defined by soft, curved lines wherever possible and extensive glazing to enhance the sea views and facilitate a seamless transition between interior and exterior spaces. Besides the floor-to-ceiling windows, the studio has also chosen a distinctive lighting system meant to create an evocative ambiance in all the leisure spaces.
In terms of decor, Zuretti aimed to strike a balance between the color palette and the surrounding environment, which is evident in the vessel's expanding opening that lets natural light flood the interior spaces. Zuretti also paid special attention to the materials chosen, the ceiling heights, and the decor items and how all these elements combined to achieve stylistic continuity between both the interior and exterior.
Project Life is envisioned as a modern superyacht in all respects. As such, the 279-footer will come with cutting-edge technologies to reduce consumption, including a highly efficient and optimized hull, diesel-electric propulsion with fossil and non-fossil fuel (HVO) technology, and POD transmission. Moreover, integrated hybrid solar panels will collect solar and thermal energy to power the hotel load and electric tenders.
Benetti also presented Project Oro, a superyacht designed in collaboration with exterior designer Giorgio Cassetta, and a new 180-foot model in its B.Yond series at the Monaco Yacht Show.
