The 579 series is Peterbilt’s most technologically advanced and fuel-efficient semi-truck ever. Their words, not ours. It was developed following direct input from drivers, techs and maintenance managers, specializing not just in sleepers and day cabs, but also various vocational applications.
One quick look and you’ll understand why the Model 579 is so darn aerodynamic. Even its massive grille and bumper were designed with fuel efficiency in mind. It even has a new air dam below the bumper which further improves aerodynamics, without impacting ground clearance, which is good to know.

Meanwhile, the mirror casings have aerodynamic properties as well, as does the A-pillar fairing, which directs airflow across the side of the cab (also has noise reduction properties). These semis also come with powerful LED headlights, which any highway trucker will tell you are pretty much a blessing at night.

With us so far? Good, because we just found another stunning Peterbilt 579 for your viewing pleasure, and it’s another UltraLoft Sleeper too, which means you can live out of it just as you would an RV, albeit minus the bathroom and fully operational kitchen – you can always use the toilets at truck stops.

This particular 579 stands out immediately thanks to its Viper Red exterior with dual 120-gallon aluminum fuel tanks, and large 80-inch (2-meter long) sleeper section with the Epiq aero package.

Inside, we’re dealing with the Premier-spec cabin, featuring Mordura driver and passenger Air Ride seats, plus modern convenience and active safety goodies such as climate control, sat-nav, cruise control, and even a collision mitigation system. In the UltraLoft sleeper section, you get two bunks (with heater), and a refrigerator for your beverages or anything else you want to keep fresh.

As for the power unit, it’s a Paccar MX-13 inline-six turbodiesel, good for 455 horsepower and 1,650 lb-ft of torque. All that grunt gets applied to the road with the help of a 12-speed automatic transmission, which also happens to be made by Paccar (it’s called the TX-12).

The MX-13 engine was designed specifically to maximize MPGs, as well as emissions and noise levels. It’s why a lot of operators prefer them to the Cummins X15, which is generally known to be a little more potent.

Does the 579 get any better than this?

Actually, yes. We showed you a similar semi-truck just last week in this Hunter Green 2024 Peterbilt 579, featuring an UltraLoft sleeper of its own, but with a slightly nicer interior (leather seats) and a 450 horsepower / 1,650 lb-ft Cummins X15 engine. Despite the sleeper section being the same size, that dark green Peterbilt featured a larger wheelbase, hence the extra $10,000 in asking price.

Also, not everybody would want to drive around in a bright red semi, but I guess that depends on your personality and how extroverted you are.
