Unconventionality for Acura's New 2011 Model

Honda's Acura is preparing several goodies for next year and, although we've learned that the company is preparing the new RL sedan, it seems like greater things are about to happen. Not much is known, but Acura is working on an unconventional model to be released sometime in 2011 or a bit later, in a 12 to 18 months timeframe, according to a report released by Car and Driver.

People have already started talking about what could be the next major surprise wearing an Acura badge and most voices are hinting about an electric vehicle that could help the luxury brand enter the already fierce battle of the green sector.

Meanwhile however, Acura must work hard to improve its image on the market, as more and more customers are avoiding the Japanese brand because of the design. A report conducted by J.D. Power claims that half of the buyers that could opt for an Acura model have went for another brand in the end, displeased by the design the Acura vehicles are offered with.

Minor improvements have already been implemented, especially on 2011 models that present several modifications in terms of exterior styling. Still, Acura sales continue to grow at a low pace, but company executives see this as a positive sign for the future. RDX sales have risen by 52% this year, while MDX sales are up 46%. Acura's overall gain of 24% means it is outselling Audi, Infiniti and Lincoln in the States, but the company sold barely half of its 2005 peak of 209,610 vehicles last year.
