The second-generation Chevrolet K5 Blazer arrived on the scene in 1973 and did pretty well for itself, despite the fact that performance was never its strong suit. Some of those models would need more than 20 seconds in order to hit 60 mph. It was brutal.
Still, compared to its predecessor, these newer K5 Blazers were bigger, had longer wheelbases and a boxier design – some would call them more rugged. That being said, you definitely wouldn’t want to own such an SUV today, unless it’s some type of restomod. There simply isn’t enough performance, fuel economy is downright comical by 2023 standards, and drivability is, not ideal, for lack of a better term.

Now, although we’ve seen quite a few K5 Blazer models circumvent these issues via heavy drivetrain modifications, we can honestly say that we’ve not seen many like this one.

This is a 1987 model year truck, tuned to look like a 4x4 Prerunner - those are the vehicles they send out to test the terrain before the start of an off-road rally.

There’s so much going on with this thing, we just have to unpack everything step by step, starting with its appearance. It’s like a Dakar 4x4 had a baby with a monster truck. You can just picture this thriving in the Mad Max universe. Unstoppable. Unbeatable.

Pretty much everything is custom in terms of visuals, even the Destroyer Gray paint job. Then there’s the widebody fiberglass kit, a body-color removable hardtop with tinted windows, black tubular bumpers, smoked taillights, side exhaust pipes, and a novel front fascia courtesy of a later-model Chevrolet Silverado.

Yes, that’s why you probably couldn’t “place” that front end, because it’s rather bespoke and makes this truck look unlike any of its peers. Not that it didn’t already.

Meanwhile, endurance mods include the 17-inch Method Race wheels with 40-inch Pro Comp Tri-Ply mud-terrain tires, custom suspension with parallel four-link front geometry, rear trailing arms, plus long-travel Fox coilovers with remote reservoirs at all four corners. This K5 Blazer also comes with power steering, power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, and a rear sway bar.

The interior has been tuned as well, now featuring front bucket seats trimmed in black leather with microsuede inserts, to go with the matching upholstery found on the dashboard and on that custom center console. Other highlights include a roll cage, power windows, auxiliary switchgear, console-mounted shifter, touchscreen infotainment system and a three-spoke MOMO steering wheel for good measure.

As for what’s hidden underneath the hood, it’s a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter Vortec V8 engine, rocking an aluminum radiator, air-to-air intercooler and throttle body spacer. According to the seller (yes, this thing is up for grabs), the truck’s been dyno-ed at 600 whp (wheel horsepower), which comes up to about 800 horsepower at the crank (best case scenario).

All that gets sent to the wheels via an overhauled four-speed automatic gearbox with a shift kit. The seller says the gearbox is able to take up to 1,000 horsepower. I mean... can you imagine?
