It was only this week when the Toyota plant in Durban, South Africa, rolled of its line the 1 millionth Corolla model, achieving a new milestone and a possible new investment from the Japanese motor giant.
Toyota South Africa Motors chief Johan van Zyl hinted about the new investment at the million milestone ceremony this week, but however, he didn’t revealed the value of the future money infusion.
“The Corolla benefited from our R8 billion investment programme in 2008, which modernised the plant and introduced a state-of-the-art paint plant. With the new Corolla we hope to start our next round of investment and look forward to sharing this plan when our first new generation Corolla models roll off the line,” said Van Zyl.
The recent achievement “crowned” six years of successful production in which the Corolla model was produced both in left- and right-hand drives for local and export markets.
