Toyota Opening a New Engine Plant in Indonesia

As the Indonesian economy is rising and officials in Jakarta have expressed their optimism over increasing vehicle sales, Toyota plans to build a new car engine manufacturing plant in Karawang.
The Japanese automaker has already built four plants in Indonesia, operated by its Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia unit. The existing plant in Karawang is now making the Innova and Fortuner models, while another plant is expecting to produce the Toyota Etios Valco from next year.

“Toyota aims to continue to develop products that satisfy Indonesian consumers while endeavoring to contribute to the expansion of the Indonesian automotive industry,” a Toyota spokesman said.

The new engine plant, which is due to became functional in 2016, will achieve an annual production capacity of 216,000 engines. The facility will cost about 23 billion yen ($230 million).
