IZEUS (Intelligent Zero Emission Urban System) is a new project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, that examines how traffic and infrastructure can be upgraded using the ICT (Information and Communications Technology), especially by the use of electric/hybrid vehicles and renewable energy sources in the electricity grid.
Joining the project is Toyota of course, well known for its struggle of researching new ways of efficient transportations and cleaner environment, a step that also extends the German-Japanese cooperation in the field of sustainable mobility.
“International cooperation is important for innovative solutions. We are glad to contribute to the iZEUS project with our Prius Plug-in Hybrid vehicles,” said Andy Fuchs, Director for Toyota Motor Europe’s Berlin Office.
Using Toyota’s Prius Plug-in model, ISI, ISE and KIT will examine driving and charging behavior, the data being further used as a basis for the integration of vehicles in to future households, where decentralized energy production will have a major role.
