Having your private apartment-style haven ready to explore the outdoors is no longer a distant dream but an affordable, available option. Comfortably sitting at the crossroads between classic camping RVs and glamping resorts, today's tiny homes offer the best of both worlds. A compact house on wheels like this Australian model is perfect for weekend getaways that will allow the whole family to have fun outdoors and still enjoy the full comfort of an urban, modern home.
Often, the concept of weekend getaways is associated with rustic, wooden cabins on wheels that offer a rugged take on outdoor fun that's not too far from classic camping. The 7200DLS model in the Lifestyle Series created by Australian builder Designer Eco Tiny Homes takes a different approach, designed to maximize comfort. While meant to provide a cozy haven in nature, this modern tiny house looks and feels totally urban.

The compact frame reveals a simple yet clever layout with two loft bedrooms and a generous open-plan area downstairs. All in all, the 7200DLS can easily accommodate up to five people, which makes it ideal for families and larger groups. The lounge is the first thing that welcomes you as you step inside, and it's also the area that can be turned into an extra bedroom thanks to the big, convertible sofa.

Extra-large windows create a welcomed sense of transparency – after all, the ultimate goal is to enhance a deeper connection with the environment. Surrounded by wonderful views, guests are also able to enjoy this just as a regular living room with a wall-mounted TV, a coffee table, and extra seats. A cozy seating area creates a seamless transition between the lounge and the kitchen, creating the sense of a larger relaxation area.

One of the lofts sits right above the lounge and can be accessed using a basic ladder. This isn't the most comfortable option if we're talking about permanent accommodation, but it's fine for a weekend getaway. Having staircases for each loft would have been impractical in a house that's only a little over seven meters (23.6 feet) long. Ladders have the great benefit of saving space because they can be easily stored away when not in use.

One thing that stands out about both bedrooms is the partial open-work protection wall. Apart from being a safety feature, it adds an instant homely feel. The design itself and the monochromatic color scheme help elevate the overall style and are a perfect match to the home's urban-inspired ambiance.

The smaller loft has windows on one side and would also make an awesome elevated lounge for a bit of privacy. The bigger one has windows on two sides, which is better for cross ventilation, and can even fit in some extra storage. This bedroom connects to the ground floor via the typical tiny house staircase with integrated storage. There's even a separate nook for a full-size fridge.

Overall, the kitchen is surprisingly well-equipped, which is also part of what makes this tiny home so modern and comfortable. In addition to the staircase cabinets, the kitchen boasts its own cabinetry, including overhead cupboards. The wide countertop is big enough to double as a breakfast bar with perfect views thanks to the large windows. Having this kind of full kitchen is one of the best things about weekend getaways. Anyone would feel at home outdoors if they could enjoy a cozy bedroom and a fully-packed kitchen.

One of the particularities of all the models designed and built by this Australian company is the unusual bathroom layout. Instead of tiny vanities and discrete shelves, these bathrooms boast large vanities with full-length countertops and multiple cabinets, including overhead cupboards.

This layout is very similar to the kitchen one, and it translates to ample storage, which is something we rarely see in tiny home bathrooms. Plus, having all of this extra storage doesn't take away any of the space meant for a comfortable shower, a standard toilet, and a washing machine. For a tiny house in this size category, the 7200DLS boasts one of the most elegant bathrooms with awesome storage.

As its name suggests, this brand focuses on housing alternatives that aren't just affordable and durable but also energy-efficient. Those who want to take things a step further can add off-grid capabilities that will also make these compact homes self-sufficient and better for the environment.

Solar trailers are often recommended as a better alternative to standard rooftop solar panels because they're much more flexible and compatible with different kinds of environments. Coupled with a composting toilet, greywater tanks, and a system for collecting rainwater, these trailers help minimize living costs over time.

The initial investment for a custom-built 7200DLS would be somewhere around $75,000 (AUD 115,800), which is reasonable considering the home's solid build and modern, functional design. Still, tiny living is all about maximizing freedom in every way, which is why this builder's portfolio includes smaller models than the 7200DLS (as small as 4.8 meters/15.7 feet) as well as bigger, luxurious ones.
