Historically, the convertible car segment is not that successful, but that doesn’t mean carmakers have stopped making this type of vehicle. If anything, having a convertible in the lineup is a statement of status, especially for a name the likes of Bentley.
For the British, the newest entry in the segment is called the Continental GT V8 Convertible. Shown for the first time in 2019, the second-generation of the model didn’t get a chance to make much of an impression before last year’s summer ended, so the hot days of 2020 could prove to be make it or break it for the model.
Already rolled out on all the markets the brand is present in, the Continental GT V8 Convertible obviously comes with the promise of a powerful V8 under the hood, the usual Bentley luxury all around, but most importantly a convertible roof that can be deployed or removed in 19 seconds, even at speeds of up to 30 mph (50 kph).
Bentley seems to be taking great pride in this new roof developed for the GT, and promise it comes with a 50 percent reduction in overall noise levels compared to its predecessor. To make that confidence even more obvious, no less than 56 combinations of interior and exterior roof colors have been created for it, including a more modern interpretation of British tweed, something that according to the Crewe carmaker has never been done before.
”The popularity of modern-day tweed has been increasing in respect to classic heritage and the honesty of materials. We’ve seen tweed used in contemporary high-end electronic product design, as well as through interior design, complementing surfaces and textures with this crafted combination of natural coloured threads,” said in a statement Bentley’s Head of Colour and Trim, Maria Mulder.
“With the GT Convertible we wanted to add a contemporary tweed hood to the extensive range of colours we already offer.”
