It doesn’t matter where in the world you are, impersonating a law enforcement officer could get you in a lot of trouble. There is a lot of freedom in the U.S., and depending on your state, you can build a cop car replica for entertainment purposes. That hasn’t stopped vigilantes from pulling over other motorists on the road with their fake sirens and lights. As a practical joke, Thomas Hunt of the TJ Hunt YouTube channel decided to turn his StreetHunter MK5 Supra into a cop car.
TJ’s StreetHunter MK5 Supra isn’t new in the automotive scene. He teamed up with Streetfighter LA and caused a stir at the 2019 SEMA with a one-of-a-kind widebody kit sending jitters to household names like Rocket Bunny Pandem.
“I do quickly want to say that I do not recommend anyone does this to their car. Before doing all this idea, I actually reached out to my lawyer and tried to do as much research online as I could because you can’t legally make your car into a cop car,” TJ warned.
According to U.S. law, the provisions for building a cop car replica demand that some standards are followed. You can’t have the word ‘Police’ printed on the car. Also, the badge shouldn’t have any realism, meaning they can look similar but not a bang-on replica.
TJ admits that turning an industry-famous MK5 Supra into a cop car is a dumb idea. However, the build only involves two things. First, getting the sound and lights of a cop car, and second, getting a suitable paint scheme.
“The first thing I did is I went online and tried to find the most expensive real cop car lights I could. The second thing I ordered was sirens and a PA system. Every cop has a PA system in their car,” TJ revealed.
As you’d imagine, the vlogger wouldn’t ruin a perfectly-looking Supra. All the modifications, including the wiring, are reversible. He also added some badges with the help of his friends from Premium Auto Styling.
Since the car is black, they only needed to do a white wrap on the roof and doors and later slap on some replica cop badges.
TJ plans on hitting the streets for some reactions on the next upload. We hope he’s got everything in check and won’t get pulled over.
